When Flowers Bloom
Haiku (Part Two)
iris fluttering,
petals lift like feathered wings,
purple, golden bird
as the earth revolves
around the sun, faithfully,
so the iris blooms
ruffle-sleeved iris,
lavender, butter-yellow,
dancing in the breeze
Irises are the first to bloom in my flower garden. I love their vibrant, unique colors. They wear them like personalities. David W Runyan II used the word “flamboyant” to describe them. There couldn’t be a more fitting word!
pink satin slipper
aura gleaming, radiant
over fans of green
soft rays of sunlight
caress a lady slipper
pink fading to white
I happened upon these two lady slippers near the ends of two different hikes. Somehow I didn’t spot them on the way in, only on the way out, as if they came out of hiding to acknowledge my accomplishment. A lovely reward!
Thank you for reading my poems! I’d love to hear if you have a favorite!

The Iris! So beautiful! You did such a wonderful job with these!
I love your Iris Haiku. I can't wait for my Iris to bloom every Spring. Mine are passed down from my Big Mama.
You inspired me. I'm working on a Haiku for another flower from my garden. I haven't written that type of poem in years.
Let you know when I get it finished.
